Every Canadian has a reason to be grateful to a physician, and the people who work at MD are no different. Whether it’s the life-saving treatment given to a child or the care provided to a dying parent, MD employees are touched by physicians like everyone else.
For the past 50 years, we’ve had a front row seat to the challenges that Canadian physicians face every day. We want to recognize the hard work, the long hours and the dedication they display.
To mark National Physicians’ Day, we asked some of our people what inspires them.
Brian Peters, President and Chief Executive Officer
“I count physicians among my friends. And as the father of four daughters, I’ve had my share of health-related scares. Over the years, as I’ve learned more about the complexities of physician burnout, I’m proud that at MD, we can give back to physicians by directly investing in programs that support their health and well-being.”
Michelle Masson, Executive Vice President, Early Career Segment
“Every day, I am amazed and inspired by medical students, residents and the physicians who are entering practice. From the moment you’re accepted into medical school, there are such exciting and difficult challenges on the path to practising. My team helps learners and physicians live their best lives today and tomorrow. If we can support their decisions while they learn, and guide them financially as they grow, perhaps we can make their lives just a bit easier.”
Daniel Labonté, Executive Vice President, Client Engagement and Experience
“Each of us has a story about the exceptional care that we’ve received from a physician. Because physicians play such an important role, I’m inspired by the trust they place in our Advisors as we help them meet their financial goals. Through our work, we help physicians focus on what they do best, which benefits all Canadians.”
Thuy Chou, Regional Manager, Calgary
“Back in 2013, my son had to spend weeks at the Alberta Children’s Hospital with a serious health issue. I loved the doctor who cared for him. She was so attentive and went above and beyond. Two years later, when I started at MD, that doctor became my client! I would meet with her in the hospital to sign papers and confirm details. I love being able to take care of her in this way—and the physician community at large.”
Mike Gassewitz, Executive Vice President, Client Solutions
“Regardless of the many challenges affecting their profession today, physicians always put patients first by providing the highest quality of care. For us, it’s only right to deliver the highest quality possible through our financial products and services for physicians and their families.”
Leah Aulenbach, Financial Consultant, Early Career Segment
“I love working with medical students and residents. I feel so privileged to provide guidance and advice to individuals who are our future in the medical world. It’s a long road for them with many stresses along the way. Being able to show them that the financial side doesn’t have to be one of the stresses is one of the many ways that we can support them on their incredible journey.”
Carl Dubeau, Regional Vice President, Quebec Region
“I have been privileged to work with so many physicians over the last 17 years at MD. Collectively, we have witnessed many changes making the physician environment so much more challenging. Nevertheless, we continue to see physicians in Canada and in Quebec wholeheartedly dedicated to their patients. We are so very proud to support the community to the best of our ability and will continue to do so for many years to come.”
Michael Greb, Vice President, Partnerships and Alliances
“I’ve had the privilege to work with physicians from around the globe—all tireless advocates for their profession and their patients. I am constantly inspired by their deep commitment to the betterment of humankind on multiple levels—from local patient advocacy to disease eradication in far corners of the world. I feel it a great honour to contribute only the best service to support their professional and personal lives.”
We appreciate physicians every day, not just on National Physicians’ Day. It’s why serving you gives our work meaning and purpose.
