MD statement on the discovery of the remains of 215 Indigenous children at former Kamloops residential school

The discovery of the remains of 215 Indigenous children on the grounds of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School is horrifying. My heart goes out to the families and communities experiencing such unspeakable pain, as well as to the survivors of residential schools.

While no words will ever bring enough comfort, every one of us can help improve the future of Indigenous Peoples across Canada by learning, seeking out the truth and taking action. This kind of engagement is an essential step toward reconciliation.

The flags at our head office in Ottawa will be flying at half staff for 215 hours in memory of the 215 Indigenous children whose remains were discovered.

MD Financial Management (MD) is committed to doing its part and continues to encourage the difficult, but important, conversations around injustice and racism, and to promote cultural competence.

As an organization dedicated to physicians and their families, we also work with our partners to assess how MD can best support Black, Indigenous and People of Colour in the medical community.
